New Delhi, Dec 25 — Delhi Police constable Subhash Chand Tomar, who died after being injured during protests against the gang-rape of a woman, was cremated with full state honour here Tuesday.

Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Home Secretary R.K. Singh were among the 1,000 people who attended the cremation at Nigambodh Ghat in central Delhi.

Among those who witnessed the final rites were hundreds of Delhi Police officials led by Commissioner Neeraj Kumar. The last rites were performed by his sons Deepak and Sonu.

The 47-year-old died early Tuesday due to respiratory and cardiovascular problems sparked off by Sunday's attack on him on a road leading to India Gate during a violent demonstration.

The constable, who had earned 77 commendations since joining Delhi Police in 1987, is survived by his wife and three children.

According to a police official, the entire police force comprising of over 80,000 personnel will contribute a day's salary to the constable's family.
