Ankara, Jan 21 — About 100 kg of heroin was seized from a truck with the help of a sniffer dog during a security operation Monday in Turkey, a media report said.

The cache of heroin was recovered following a tip-off in the country's Samsun province where it was being carried hidden in a truck, Xinhua reported.

The driver of the truck was detained for ferrying the illicit drugs, said the report.

In another incident, security forces seized 288 kg of hashish and 557 opiate drugs in the capital city of Ankara Monday. Fifteen people were arrested in connection with the illicit drugs.

Turkey has long been a key transit point along the drug smuggling route from Asia and Middle East to Europe.
