Dubai, Feb 14 (IANS/WAM) Flydubai, a low-cost carrier, made a net profit of 151.9 million dirhams (around $41 million) in 2012.

The carrier carried 5.1 million passengers through its network last year. The airline now flies to 52 destinations.

Company chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum praised the fast-growing airline.

"In its short history, Flydubai has firmly established its place in the region. It has opened up new markets, contributed to increased tourism in Dubai and made a major contribution to the growth and connectivity of Dubai's aviation hub," he said.

Since its launch in June 2009, the airline has carried 10.4 million passengers.
