South Korea's consumer price inflation stays low

Seoul, July 1 — South Korea's consumer price inflation stayed at the lowest level in nearly 14 years for two straight months due to the persistently stable picture of farm goods and oil prices, a government report showed Monday.

Consumer prices rose 1 percent in June from a year earlier, stayed at the level for the second consecutive month, according to a report by Statistics Korea. From a month before, the prices fell 0.1 percent, reported Xinhua.

The on-year figure was the lowest since September 1999 when the prices gained 0.8 percent, and remained in the 1-percent range for eight straight months.

The trend of stable prices was attributed to a continued fall in farm goods and petroleum product prices coming from good weathers and stable crude oil prices. Prices for agricultural and oil products declined 4.7 percent and 0.1 percent each in June from the prior month.

Silver Prices Will Remain Rangebound

Aug 20 2014 11:47am CDT | Source: SeekingAlpha

By Alpha World:Silver prices plunged last year, falling around 35%. Like gold, silver struggled as its inflation-hedge appeal was dented after the Federal Reserve hinted at the tapering of its multi-billion dollar asset purchase program by the end of 2013. However, there were expectations this year that silver prices would recover some of the lost ground. The optimism was based on the fact that silver has alre ...

HERE COMES CPI... (DIA, SPX, SPY, QQQ, TLT, IWM)

Aug 19 2014 7:00am CDT | Source: Business Insider

The latest consumer price index report is set for release from the BLS at 8:30 am ET. Expectations are for CPI to rise 0.1% month-over-month, and 2% year-over-year. "Core" CPI, which excludes food and gas — which tend to be more volatile — is expected to rise 0.2% over last month and 1.9% over last year. CPI isn't the Fed's preferred measure of inflation — that would be the personal consumption expenditures, or PCE report — but with both metrics remaining well belo ...
