Top International Hospitals to Hold Summit in Asia to Address Hospital Efficiency, Patient Safety Issues

World-renowned physicians, hospital managers and health ministries will join forces at the highly anticipated, Hospital Efficiency and Quality Asia Summit 2014 in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, December 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The growing concern over patient safety is at the heart of every serious discussion among healthcare providers across Asia. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), “nearly one in ten patients is harmed while receiving health care in well-funded and technologically advanced hospital settings”. In less sophisticated hospital settings, the rate could even be higher. Juxtapose this to the fact that many hospitals are also mired in issues such as rising costs, inefficiencies and wastage and you can realise just how big of a problem this is turning out to be.

Meeting the challenges head on, top hospital managers, clinicians and health ministries will gather for the 3rd Annual Hospital Efficiency & Quality Asia Summit 2014 on 19-20 March in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Produced in collaboration with Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia, this rare gathering aims to identify ways to improve efficiency, minimise wastage and manage costs while improving patient safety and healthcare outcomes.

Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director General, MOH Malaysia will kick off the event with a keynote address on Achieving Vision 2020: Key MOH Priorities and Drivers to Improve Efficiency and Quality in Healthcare. Other notable international speakers include Mr. Steven Thompson, CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine International, USA (Achieving and Maintaining World Class Safety and Quality Standards); Mr. Miles Scott, CEO, St. George's Hospital (Ensuring Zero Infection Rates for Vulnerable Patients) and Dr. Bruce Campbell, Stroke Neurologist and Research Fellow, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia (Optimizing Emergency Care Systems: Improving Outcomes for Stroke Patients by Streamlining Processes).

Rounding up the list of featured speakers are Apollo Hospital Group’s Regional CEO Dr. Umapathy Panyala, who will speak about managing costs while delivering quality care for procedures like heart and lung surgeries and A/Prof Mohan Tiru, Chief and Senior Consultant, Accident and Emergency Department, Changi General Hospital Singapore, who reveal valuable insights on achieving efficient patient throughput in the emergency department.

One of the major themes that will likely dominate the discussion in this year’s forum is how can hospitals expand their service offerings without compromising efficiency – and most importantly – safety. Answering that important question is the ‘Holy Grail’ in hospital administration and for this, a C-level panel discussion has been calendared to shed light on the issue. Sitting on this panel are top executives from Apollo Hospitals Group, Fortis Healthcare and Gleneagles Hospital.

The full-packed agenda will be complemented with content-rich and timely workshops, which include:

· Reducing Hospital Re-Admissions By Improving Home and Community Support
· Improving Processes to Shorten Treatment Times for High Acuity Patients (with a Special Focus on Stroke Care)
· Improving Bedside Care through Nurse Management and Empowerment (with a Special Focus on Elderly Care)
· Ensuring Efficient Patient Throughput in the Emergency Department
· Improving the Value Chain Within Your Hospital Using LEAN Processes
· Managing Costs while Improving Efficiencies: Learning from the Apollo Hospitals Group

An exclusive site tour at Putrajaya Hospital has been arranged by conference organisers for delegates who will book early.
