MiTeGen Announces Online Beamline Guide for Structural Biologists

Ithaca, NY, December 18, 2013 –(– The Beamline Guide allows for crystallographers, structural biologists and other researchers, to learn about the sample preparation tools and hardware that can be used for data collection at crystallography related beamlines around the world.

“The Beamline Guide originated from repeated customer requests for a simple way to confirm compatibility of sampling handling components with their intended usage sites. We have received very positive feedback from both customers and beamlines staff regarding the Beamline Guide, which gives clarity regarding to what items are compatible with each beam line, and also helps to facilitate communication between users and the best contact at each beamline,” says Robert Newman, CEO at MiTeGen.

The guide currently includes details on over 100 beamlines at 26 synchrotron research facilities worldwide. These facilities often have varying sample handling equipment and standards for automated sample placement and data collection.

Each beamline web page includes:
· a brief description of the beamline
· the important beamline contacts with contact information and links
· links to the beamline website where potential users can get more specific details
· information on auto-mounters ( if any)
· clarification of the allowed / recommended goniometer base (cap) model(s)
· clarification of pucks used (if any)

“Knowing what equipment can be used at the beamline, where the user is sending their crystals, is critical for the scientists to successfully carry out their research,” says Benjamin Apker, the Director of Business Development at MiTeGen. “Having your crystals arrive at a facility mounted on equipment that is known to be fully compatible with the specific beamline’s robotic system, enables the user to get their samples mounted for data collection successfully and prevents issues that can result in the loss of valuable beamtime.”

The Beamline Guide is now available online at

More crystallography related beamlines and data will be added as it becomes available.

Beamlines can contact MiTeGen with updates, photographs or additional information they would like posted to the guide.
