Organization of Legal Professionals Expands to South Carolina by Welcoming New Chapter in Columbia

Organization of Legal Professionals welcomes new South Carolina chapter. OLP provides eDiscovery certifications and legal technology to attorneys, litigation support professionals and paralegals. The association has members in 10 countries.

Los Angeles, CA, January 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Organization of Legal Professionals (OLP) is proud to be expanding to South Carolina as a new chapter holds its first official gathering February 12, 2014.

According to Tim Thames, an eDiscovery specialist in Columbia, SC who heads the newly organized group, the area had been home to an active chapter of the Association of Litigation Support Professionals (ALSP) since 2008. However, when a competing organization acquired the ALSP in 2012, the Columbia group discovered that somehow it was not included in the merger. After that, Thames called the membership together and it voted to join the OLP.

“The OLP is more inclusive of litigation-related specialties. We needed a professional organization and the resources provided by the OLP are more in tune with what people here seem to want,” says Thames.

Jennifer Swanton, eDiscovery Counsel with Medtronic and Member of the Board of Governors and Director of Education at the OLP, will be the featured speaker at the Columbia chapter’s initial meeting on Feb. 1. Swanton, who says she is thrilled to welcome the newly organized group into the OLP, will also advise Thames and the group’s members as it becomes familiar with the OLP.

“I am proud to welcome our newest chapter in Columbia, South Carolina to the OLP family,” says Chere Estrin, OLP founder and president. “There are several organizations whose mission is to educate and strengthen professions supporting those who practice law, and I am humbled our colleagues in Columbia decided the OLP was the best organization to support those efforts.”

Established as an organization supporting the growth and education of legal support staff and paralegals in Los Angeles in 2010, the OLP offers comprehensive courses of study for members, including over 100 free webinars a year, professional publications as well as numerous networking and volunteer opportunities. Members include lawyers, judges, litigation support professionals, consultants, paralegals and other professionals from various law-related professions such as e-discovery and law practice management.
