New members’ donations total more than $1 million in support of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.

Laguna Hills, CA, February 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Saddleback Memorial Foundation honored long-time Heritage Society donors and three new members at their annual recognition luncheon on Feb. 6 at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel.

New members Vicky and Alan Hsia, Dorothy Yeh Chu Louie, and Rae Tso – all residents of Laguna Woods – contributed a combined amount of more than $1 million through planned gifts in support of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in 2013.

Heritage Society members are donors who support Saddleback Memorial with donations made through bequests, charitable gift annuities, trusts, and other deferred gifts.

“I’m truly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had in this country, and now it’s my turn to reciprocate,” said Rae Tso who gives through a charitable gift annuity. “It’s so much better than having it locked in a savings account. Instead, the annuity provides guaranteed income for me and I have a great deal of satisfaction knowing I’m contributing to the well-being of our community.”

“We are fortunate to have so many generous people who believe in the importance of supporting their local hospital,” said Saddleback Memorial Foundation President Cecilia Belew.

Saddleback Memorial Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Steve Geidt thanked guests for their continued support and spoke about the medical center being included in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals ranking for the third consecutive year. He updated donors on hospital developments and talked about the new MemorialCare Cancer Institute at Saddleback Memorial opening in May.

Keynote speaker and vascular surgeon Wang Teng, M.D. shared his experience volunteering at the U.S. Army’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. During his two-week stint abroad, Dr. Teng treated wounded U.S. military injured in the line of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. He shared photos of the conditions in which he and other volunteers worked in to save the lives of wounded warriors.

Belew then honored new Heritage Society members and acknowledged members who made additional planned gifts in the past year.

“I think our donors appreciate that the Foundation provides a variety of ways to support Saddleback Memorial Medical Center,” said Belew. From volunteering time, giving cash donations and giving through deferred gifts – as our wonderful Heritage Society members do – our donors can give in the manner in which they prefer. We in turn, are grateful for all gifts that ultimately touch the lives of the people of our community.”
